Amenities and Services

The Forum, originally the Chapel, remains the hub of the Priory and provides a fine setting for meeting friends. Optional luncheon is served in here two or three times a week. Morning coffee is served three times a week and there are good facilities for concerts, talks and meetings. Priory residents and management are active in their support of charities and often use the excellent facilities for fund-raising events. Just visible at the top of the picture is the original organ loft, now used as a small library. Nearby is the Octagon, the restored Chapter House, now used for the Art Group, snooker and other social activities.

The heated indoor swimming pool can be booked for exclusive use. It is equipped with a flow machine which provides extra exercise and therapy benefits.

The Sun Lounge opens out on to a suntrap paved terrace which faces south over the open countryside. The Vicar of Abbotskerswell conducts Holy Communion in here once a month.

The grounds extend to more than five acres and are partly formal gardens and lawns and partly woodland and wildflower paddock. An article on the paddock appears later in this web site.

The Caretaker is resident on site and there is a full-time gardener. An alarm system is installed to provide 24-hour response to residents in case of emergencies and domestic help can be arranged. There is a passenger lift to the first floor and we have a spacious hairdressing salon with a weekly hairdresser.

The Priory minibus makes regular shopping trips at least twice a week to local towns such as Newton Abbot and Totnes, and is available for theatre visits and other outings organised by residents. Modern laundry facilities are available and there are small greenhouses which can be rented. Two comfortable guest suites are available for short-term use by family and friends.

We have regular visits by the mobile greengrocer, fresh fish merchant, mobile library and fish and chip van. The milkman can bring bread and the usual services of a civilised community such as newspaper deliveries are all available.
